Paper Dolls - Polyurethane Condoms

Female Condom Paper DollsAt the International AIDS Conference, the Condoms4All program tried to create the world's longest chain of paper dolls to promote the idea of access to female condoms for everyone. Although they did not succeed in breaking the record, the universal access to female condoms program is doing important work by trying to address some of the barriers to female condom access - such as the fact that female condoms can be substantially more expensive than male condoms - by increasing awareness of interest in these devices. They are also running large scale distribution programs and working on developing the next generation of female condoms, including the Cupid device that I blogged about last month.

Female condoms are an incredibly useful tool for women who want to take responsibility for their own sexual health. Although they can not be used without male cooperation, they are the only female controlled method for STD prevention during intercourse. Improving access, particularly in developing countries, is an important way to empower women to reduce their risk of HIV and other diseases. In addition, many men find female condoms to be more enjoyable than male condoms. Therefore, improving access and education about these devices could be of great benefit to people of both sexes.
