Luanda — The vice minister of Health, Evelize Frestas, congratulated the National Institute of Combat HIV/AIDS and partners on development of studies that allow to better characterize the situation related to HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Evelize Frestas expressed the recognition while speaking to Angop on the sidelines of the meeting to release the results of sero-behavioural HIV/AIDS and Syphilis studies, 2011.
The government official stressed that the National Institute to Fight against HIV/AIDS has a responsibility or the key to monitor the diseases, taking into account behavioural aspects and risk factors they present.
According to the vice minister, the release of the results of the study will enable everyone to have a more complete understanding of the situation and trends of these diseases so that they can make decisions based on evidence and allowing a more effective management and control of HIV/AIDS endemics.
The Evelize Frestas said that the good management and control of HIV/AIDS endemics will contribute to the achievement of the objectives outlined by the Angolan Government and development of Millennium development goal.
She also spoke of importance of each provincial health director to convey the message to the provincial government. Evelize Frestas recommended to continue staging campaign of the red ribbon for voluntary testing and counselling in the general population in relation to their HIV status.
The deputy minister seized the occasion to announce that this year the World Population Day, on July 11, will be celebrated under the theme "Universal Access to Reproductive Health".
Attended the event representatives of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), UNAIDS, directorsof the National Institute to Fight against HIV/AIDS, provincial health directors and other guests.
